There and Back Again 6: Cairo

A few years ago we took a cruise. This was an expedition postponed because of Covid, and involved sailing around the boot of Italy. Due to weather conditions, the vessel was unable to enter the Bay of Naples. There was much discontent, although we were calm — we had visited Pompeii and Herculaneum thirty years ago. But the cruise line offered us a huge discount on a second cruise, and it seemed an ideal chance to knock an item off the bucket list: the Nile River.

And here we are! This is a view of beautiful downtown Cairo, outside my hotel room window. Yes, those are the Pyramids, luridly highlighted by a desert sunset! OMG. This is going to be SO GREAT.
