Sasquatch Festival
Among true believers in Sasquatch, the hot debate is about how Bigfoot disappears so quickly.
Some will tell you without hesitation that the creatures are really aliens and teleport back to the UFO hovering just behind the next ridge.
Others insist that we look at the science and new discoveries about quantum physics and the ability to open portals to other dimensions. That’s what Bigfoot does and has always done. They are higher beings than we are.
Then there’s the guy who spends almost as much time in the field as at his desk analyzing his findings. Sasquatch are masters at camouflage. All they need to do is step behind the biggest tree nearby, and sit down. We have a lot of really big trees in the Pacific North Wet. Stillness is the best way to hide. And he’s found the evidence of handprints and crushed foliage.
Who are you going to believe?
I found all three “experts” at the 1st Annual Sasquatch Festival at the Resort at Mt. Hood over the weekend of April 11-13, 2025.
I was surprised to discover that a dozen or more locations in the Pacific NW host similar events.
While local vendors plied their Bigfoot wares, T-shirts displaying the hero of the weekend, engraved shot glasses, jewelry, replica plaster casts of footprints, and even Bigfoot chow (sunflower seeds roasted with garlic and herbs), in the ballroom experts presented their rehearsed lectures. I loved Dr. Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy and anthropology at a university. He loves the foot and presented pictures of the evolution of human feet. These he compared to the plaster casts of Bigfoot footprints. Then he talked about branching evolution. By the end I was 90% convinced.
Local celebrity Cliff Barackman from the “Finding Bigfoot” TV series and now the “North American Bigfoot Center” which is a museum, and gift shop as well as a community gathering spot for members, and a research center. Fascinating man who is out in the field as well as behind his desk collating data. His degree may be in jazz guitar, but he has the scientific mind who always wants to know more, ask the “What then?” questions.
I even found an artist who had a design I want for my next new book—a retelling of Tarzan, post apocalyptic with Sasquatch. Now I have to finish writing that book.
