The Rambling Writer Visits Thailand, part 7: Koh Samui Arrival

Thor and and I arrive on Koh Samui to sample the island life.

NOTE: “And now for something completely different.” Thor and I made our first trip to Asia — the beautiful country of Thailand.  We were lucky to squeak through the pandemic flight closures in January/February of 2020 as we returned from our three-week trip. Since more travel has now become a distant prospect, we hope you’ll take a virtual vacation with us in the following weeks. (This blog series started on June 13.)

My August 8th post saw us departing Bangkok for the airport and the lovely island of Koh Samui. (I’ll keep this one brief as I recover from surgery.) One of the reasons for our trip was to check out possible locations for spending several winter weeks in the future, with the goal to find warm sea and good snorkeling in an affordable, not too crowded location. We quickly realized that Koh Samui, which had been recommended to us, is way too crowded, so we decided to simply enjoy being tourists for a few days.

The price was right, very reasonable for this nice condo I found on VRBO, with lovely view and infinity pool.

Because our Book View Cafe website server at this point may not handle many photos, I’m posting my complete blog entries on my own author website at, where you can finish this episode and enjoy all the accompanying photos. 1. Thai massages on the beach for 10 dollars and dinner for 8. That was nice and the people were wonderful. Too bad there were SO many tourists.

    • Yes, I love the many dragon images in the country. I’ll have a closeup of that rail in an upcoming post. And some other very colorful statues. And more blue sea….
