This is my first visit to Bristol, one of the great Victorian cities in southern England. It has everything to recommend it — thrillingly redeveloped industrial buildings, preserved churches, and fantabulous food. It’s not as expensive and intimidating as London, and makes a fine base for exploring the surrounding region. We have managed to get to Fishbourne and Bath, both strongholds when the Romans ruled Britain.
It’s too easy, when going to a major convention, to simply stay in the convention and never see the country. I have made a deliberate effort to get out a little!
