If you’ve been pigging out on the gusher of great new young adult fantasy for girls, get ready to swoon.
Flora’s Dare, book two in the Flora Fyrdraaca novels by Ysabeau Wilce, is smart YA fantasy for girls. It’s smarter than Harry Potter, more literate, funnier, loaded with all the great broody-freudy stuff a girl reader wants, same as Flora Segunda, the first book in the series. And the girl is center stage. Frankly, that counts with me.
Along with Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching, Flora Fyrdraaca is the rare and wonderful YA heroine I always wanted to be. I like her so much I’m getting in my time machine and hiding a copy under twelve-year-old-me’s bed.
