A Rambling Writer Rerun: Thailand, part 12: Around Our Jungle Treehouse

Join Thor and me as our Thailand virtual vacation continues with a nature walk around the eco-lodge at Khao Sok National Park.

NOTE: Due to health issues, Thor and I haven’t been able to do much travel the past few years, so here’s our Thailand trip from 2020. We were lucky to squeak through the pandemic flight closures that February of 2020 as we returned from our three-week trip. Now crazy times just keep getting crazier. So escape for a few minutes from our new American dystopia to a country as beautiful and colorful as a dream! I’ll interrupt the reruns with occasional book reviews or Geezer Adventures…. (This blog series began 3/15/2025.)

Last time (post #11) we arrived at Our Jungle House, an eco-lodge on 25 acres of rainforest nestled against the Khao Sok wilderness. After the crowds in Bangkok and on the island of Koh Samui, Thor and I caught grateful breaths of serene quiet here in our treehouse suspended in green nature. Our “Liana” treehouse perched next to a beautiful, clear river, a welcome place for a swim to cool off in the muggy heat.

Looking upstream, you can see the karst limestone cliff towering over the river, where monkeys — long-tailed macaques — shelter in holes. We’ll see more of these lively critters in an upcoming post, but the top photo above shows one munching bamboo next to our deck.

The lodge aims to have as little impact as possible on the environment, and it was lovely to wander along the narrow trails past the treehouses perched among and on giant trees, surrounded by greenery.
