Everyone has seen Indiana Jones, I know. So you will recognize this image. Petra, the rose-red city half as old as time, is now more famous for Harrison Ford galloping up to it. It’s a fantastic place, utterly defensible — even today you’d need planes, it’s not assailable by land. Not that you would need to. Jordan is a welcoming country and tourism is a major industry. There are crusader castles, Nabataean ruins like Petra, monasteries, and an entire Roman city, Jerash, just outside Amman. There’s so much stuff in this region! Why is life not longer, so I can see all these places?
