Pard Gets a New Catnip Mouse

The Annals of Pard XXI

by Ursula K. Le Guin

Don’t worry, I can hold my catnip. I am perfectly steady on my feet.

Didn’t I have a moush in my pawsh jush now?

Is this a mouse which I see before me, its tail toward my paw?

Ursula, I come from the other hemisphere and a totally different culture – it explains, to a degree, why I only heard about the whole Ursula K. Le Guin phenomenon two days ago. Since then I’ve been reading whatever I can grab that’s been written by you. Thank you for being.

In Navigating the Ocean of Story you mention a short story by Chekhov – it’s called Vanka (after the main character Vania Zhukov).

Ha ha, he’s too cute. Sorry to say that my kitties are not affected by catnip at all.

  3. Robert McGarr says:

I hope you have had a very happy Christmas Ursula. My mother has a cat called Mimi who reminds me of your Pard. They are a lot of fun aren’t they?

This year I had the pleasure of reading two volumes of The Unreal and the Real. There was a really good story, which I loved, in which a girl who is the survivor of an accident encounters a very unusual, yet familiar group of beings, who take her in. I loved it and I think you are the only author that I first picked up when I was 8 (A Wizard of Earthsea) and am still reading at the age of 41! Long may you continue to enthral your readers and a very happy New Year to you.
    Best Wishes,
    Robert McGarr

Pard is goner; he’s been overcome!

  5. I had to imagine that you had a cat! I never thought I would, but now I have and adore one too: Yuki (name inspired by a science fictional spin-off), she is a queen. I am a young science fiction author from Italy, and my dream is to be able and write to you (a reply would be the icing on the cake), because you are one of the authors I look up at the most. Is there any way I could reach you? an official e-mail maybe? Thank you for what your pen gave to my life.
